SICOMOSO

Abstract

Body Systems from Somatic Movement is a multimedia digital publication written by Laura Cruz that studies the neuroendocrine and immune system, in relation to its participation in the regulation of physical, mental and emotional processes from the point of view of dance and movement. This material is intended to promote bodily autonomy and self-knowledge, based on theoretical references, self-regulation tools, exercises and experiential practices.

The digital book format allows more reading, viewing and interaction possibilities so that the people who consult it can have an experience. Apart from the informative content in the text, this digital format has a more interactive design and layout, through images, gifs, interview videos, dance videos, and audios with exercises and practices from somatic movement and dance, elements that make it possible to have a learning beyond the theoretical, but experiential.

Systems integration

"Each of the cells in our body is by itself a living being, with its own internal environment, with its own breathing, with its own skin -which is the cell membrane- and its own consciousness. From the idea of visualizing the well-being of a single cell or group of cells in a specific area or function of the body, we can generate changes in our health. If we imagine our organism as an ecosystem full of living beings of our own and others (bacteria, viruses, etc.) that represent different consciences, with particular characteristics and we play with personifying the different parts of our body, we can realize that according to their functions, physical structure and physiology, different qualities of movement can be awakened. These expressions could be compared in our imagination with characteristics of the personality of that specific part, of his "mind-body"." Extract from SICOMOSO

““In terms of bodily systems, change occurs from one mind to another through the very fine membranous skins that surround all cells, structures, and fluid systems. These membranes function not only as boundaries to contain and differentiate, but as communication bridges between one state and another.” Linda Hartley

Breating & self regulation

The act of breathing is a process regulated by the autonomic nervous system, we inhale and exhale oxygen unconsciously, for this reason many people assume that we cannot exert any influence or have control over it. However, with constant training of our nervous system and lungs, breathing can change in its depth, quality, and even in the intervals between inhalation, exhalation, and retention. We are able to hold our breath for long periods of time with training. We can train our respiratory activity and positively influence the strengthening of the autonomic nervous system and therefore, in different physiological and chemical processes that are affected in the different activities of the body.

“Recent scientific studies have shown that when you are submerged in water and practice holding your breath, many “alpha waves” appear in the brain, demonstrating a completely calm and relaxed state of mind.” Stig Åvall

Multimedia & exercises

"Multimedia and Exercises, is a section where you will find a playlist with all the audios of the practices, in turn you will find a 3D skeleton that will help you locate certain parts of the body in experiential anatomy practices, since most of the reference points are bony elements. The skeleton can be manipulated by increasing or decreasing its size, it can be rotated and paused". Extract from SICOMOSO
